Template: I choose this template for two reasons. The first, because I like simplicity and efficiency. This template provides that for me. My greatest pet peeve is a website that is extremely confusing. I like websites that have everything labeled, and when you click on the label, you find what you wanted. My second reason for choosing this template is because I'm co-writer of another blog that six of my friends from home use to keep in touch. That blog has a similar template. I knew it worked well for me, so I stuck with the same idea. Although, I did switch a few things up to make it more personalized.
Title: My title is extremely long. I know. I decided on it, not because I "fell in love with it the moment it popped into my head" or because it was "perfect", but because it was practical. I was having a hard time coming up with cutesy, clever titles and so after spending an obscene amount of time trying to get that perfect title, I decided to get straight to the point. I want Penn State to prove to me that I can get everything (well, most everything) here that I could get at any other university. I want to discover what kind of art is here and why it is such a unique place. So I use the title to let my audience know what I intend to document while in this first semester of school here in State College.
Color: I only used various shades of greys and purples in this blog. They are subtle colors, which suited me because I didn't want to pull attention from the writing. They also work well together, making the blog aesthetically pleasing. There's also a map that's in the grey background, which makes the screen more exciting to look at and ties in my love of travel and history. These are also the colors of my bedroom at home and purple is my sister's favorite color, so it has a bit of personal importance to me.
Font: I knew I wanted a special font for the title, but I like classic fonts for the rest of the blog. By using the classic fonts I'm again drawing the focus to what I'm writing in the blog. For my title, I could have picked a fancy script for the title to give the blog an old-world and formal look (that thought crossed my mind), but in the end I decided I wanted something more low-key and fun.
Pages: Although I only have four pages, I'll probably add more because I like writing. My theory is that if I continue writing on this blog, I'd like to expand on the topics I write about. And to expand I'd add more pages. But right now, the pages serve the purposes they need to. They direct the reader of the blog to the specified information.
Links: My decision to include links was very last minute. I ended up figuring it would be nice to have, just in case I wanted to lead the reader to interesting things I find online that corresponds with my writing.
I realize I come off as someone who really likes consistency and efficiency, which may lead one to assume that I'm not a creative person and more of a "form follows function" kind of girl. And that's not completely wrong. I really like it when things are straightforward and logical. However, although my love for the arts may not come across in the design of the blog, it should come across in my writing, especially on my "About Me" page, in which I allow my audience a glimpse into my interests and passions.
